Machu Picchu Trek 2019
Day 1. Here I am at Km 82, Llactapata- Ayapata. At this point, I just hope that I have packed everything I need for the four day adventure. My backpack weighs about twenty-two pounds. Water is heavier than one thinks. To get to this starting place, I had to make reservations for this trip a year in advance. The Peruvian government restricts Inca Trail permits to a small number and they sell-out quickly. I also had to be vaccinated for TDaP, Hep A/B (which is a series of three injections), Yellow Fever, Influenza, and took medication for Malaria. Rabies was suggested, and i respectfully declined. The fight from DFW to Lima, Peru was about eight hours, with a two hour layover, before flying forty minutes on a smaller plane to Cusco. For those that might be considering this trip, the two hour layover in Lima was not enough time. Had I not met an "angel" at the ticket counter in Lima, I would have missed my flight to Cusco. The Lima airport is in the stone ages compared to DFW.
